Join a leading company in the Australian energy sector, playing a pivotal role in gas exploration and production. Our client operates a world-class CSG production business, and is searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to come on board as a contractor. This crucial position is part of a forward-thinking management team, dedicated to addressing the world’s increasing energy needs, maximizing production efficiency, reducing gas supply costs, and leading efforts in decarbonizing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead FEED development, detailed design, and engineering assurance for the mechanical aspects of new wells and infrastructure.
- Assume technical responsibility for the mechanical design of surface equipment.
- Provide expert and RPEQ review of mechanical documentation, calculations, and specifications.
- Manage external consultants for engineering design tasks.
- Oversee procurement processes, ensuring design quality and compliance.
- Serve as the technical liaison with equipment vendors and support contractors.
- Implement cost-saving measures and maintain competitive pricing.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet Process Safety and HSE standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in well delivery, including asset engineering, operations, and field personnel.
- Uphold and improve technical standards, focusing on safety and value enhancement.
- Mentor early career engineers in the field of mechanical engineering.
Problem Solving & Decision Making:
- Lead with a strong focus on safety, prepared to address engineering concerns proactively.
- Skillfully identify, scope, and resolve complex engineering problems.
- Effectively communicate technical issues to operations and support teams.
- Manage program changes in compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Challenge operational practices to ensure risk is minimized (ALARP principle).
Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and RPEQ certification.
- At least 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and technical leadership abilities.
- Strong negotiation skills and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Experience in risk assessment and management.
