The Role:
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated civil engineer to gain hands-on experience across multiple aspects of disaster recovery projects. The role offers a mix of site inspections, civil design, and project management, providing the ideal environment for developing well-rounded engineering skills.
Based on the Gold Coast, with opportunities to attend external meetings and site visits, you’ll work on projects under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), delivering meaningful outcomes for communities. This position is designed to develop young engineers and build their expertise in a supportive and collaborative setting.
Key Accountabilities:
Site Work
- Conduct site inspections to assess and document damage, such as potholes, pavement issues, and slips, using the TMR RADAR platform (training provided).
- Collaborate with geotechnical and environmental teams to assess damage eligibility.
- Photograph and compile detailed records of damage to inform project decisions.
Desktop Work
- Complete RADAR inputs, status updates, and DRFA-related submissions for funding and eligibility assessments.
- Draft Phase 1 DRFA submissions, including damage evaluations, high-level estimates, and treatment recommendations.
- Assist geotechnical engineers in preparing Damage Assessment Matrices (DAM) with sketches, photos, estimates, and treatment plans.
Civil Design
- Develop simple civil design documentation to enable damage repair, ensuring compliance with TMR specifications.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, review deliverables, and prepare Bills of Quantities and technical reports.
- Liaise with internal project teams to ensure high-quality documentation and designs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Engage with clients throughout the program delivery to address project needs and provide updates.
- Provide on-site construction phase support and respond to RFIs as needed.
- Attend external meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
Experience & Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- 3-5 years’ experience.
- Previous experience in the disaster recovery space is highly favoured.
- Experience with state authority and council projects favoured.
- Engage with a small team of engineers and drafters in the delivery of disaster recovery projects.
